I saw you down at Alpine Valley in Troy, WI in 1979 and have been in Love with you ever since. You soothed my heart after my divorce and my Dad's passing.🌹

Maybe most people don't know this song was written by the much and wrongly maligned John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas.

There are some songs you wish would not end...this is one. As if those images and lyrics might keep weaving and spinning, chorus after chorus. A song for men and women...for what man has not loved as she phrases it and been left aching. And what woman has not trailed men in the wake of her freedom...

This was the first time I heard of Joni Mitchell. It's my first and favorite of her songs. I love the whole "Chalk Mark In A Rainstorm" album! Part of the soundtrack of my life.

Joanie before she found her signature was classic old school folk. Like Joan Baez she's also a lil operatic. Iconic artists like Joanie always have a similar back story. They relentlessly study those before them & their curiosity drives them outside their comfort zone which often presents obstacles which can promote improvisation for those willing to sample outside their Genre. Artistry is pretty much steeped in fusion no matter what the medium. In her day most just stuck to tradition.

Joni Anderson gave birth in 1965. The bio-father, Brad MacMath, didn't want to know. Social hostility toward unwed mothers forced her to give up her child. I wonder if she was concealing her pregnancy here.

Fantastic. What a song. What a person and a life. She takes care of every word, note, stance, glances at the audience, and inward glances at the memories embodying it all.

Her voice is over the top. Just beautiful. Was great then and great now. Takes you back to a different time and place. Some of you know what I mean. The 70s. I miss it so so much. Thank you for such a wonderful song. Was 9 years old in detroit when I first heard it. Young boy in love with her. Lol

I really appreciated Joni in her middle to late period. From 1983 when I heard her 1976 masterpiece Hejira. I hadn’t seen this video probably because I don’t think it’s very successful. There is too much reverb in the production IMO. Hey .. that’s the 80’s 😀
